Amazing Stats on the State of the Internet
February 27, 2010This is SUCH an amazing video!
Individual stats like Facebook passing the 400 million user mark, Twitter hitting 50 million tweets per day, and YouTube viewers watching 1 billion videos per day are impressive on their own, but what if we looked at Internet-related stats collectively? Jesse Thomas did just that in his video State of the Internet. - Mashable

Site to See: SignAppNow
February 25, 2010SignApp Now is a simple (and really quite adorable) way to create sign up sheets online. You don’t need to register to use it. Just create a sign up sheet and email its unique link (URL) to everyone you’d like to sign up.
The people you send the link to just need to visit your page and sign up. (They don’t need to register either.) Pretty cool!
Why Every Woman Needs a Sassy Gay Friend
February 24, 2010This video from The Second City Network shows how differently Hamlet would have ended if Ophelia had only had a Sassy Gay Friend. Love it! Personally … I think everyone should have one.

Cool Tool: Instant "Chan" Buttons
I really don’t know what it is with me and my fixation with big, shiny buttons — but I really can’t resist them… especially when they generate sound effects that crack me up. (Remember the “Nooooooo!” button? haha!)
Here’s my latest discovery — the “Chan!” and “Chan! Chan!” buttons, which could come in really handy at a boring meeting — to add instant drama to announcements, or just wake sleepy staffers up. Try them out!
Desktop Diva News & ‘Views: Episode 1 - The Edward Cullen Body Pillow
February 22, 2010Ha! Finally finished my first Go!Animate video — which, incidentally, is the first episode of a new “news & interviews” segment of the Desktop Diva blog.
(Heaven knows when the next episode will be up)
Today’s Time-Waster: Add Your Own Message to the Bat Signal
February 19, 2010
Doghouse Diaries has a fun little activity going on, which I’d totally join if I had the time today. But hey — if your day is less stressful than mine, I say go for it.
Grab the Bat Signal pic here, personalize it, and then (if you want to) post it on the Doghouse Diaries Facebook fan page.
Have fun!
The Adventures of Mosh Girl: 20 Hilarious Examples of Fun with Photoshop
February 18, 2010OMG - these photos had me laughing so hard I had tears streaming down my face — at 6:00 in the morning! I didn’t even need coffee.
I’m not sure exactly when Mosh Girl became famous, but it all began with this pic:
Since then, photoshoppers across the world have had an absolute field day, using Mosh Girl to create some of the funniest pictures I have ever seen in my life!

101 Muppets of Sesame Street
February 17, 2010This is so incredibly cool. In celebration of Sesame Street’s 40th year on the air, NationalPost.com is featuring an interactive guide to 101 Sesame Street muppets — about 90 of which I never even knew existed.
Today’s Time Waster: Romance Novel Yourself
February 16, 2010The things people think of, really. The cheesy music that starts playing the minute you get on the site really made me laugh in spite of my mid-morning stress though… so for that alone, I highly recommend it.
Oh, the pranks I could play with this, if I only had the time…

3 Cool (and Free!) Tools to Make Your Own Animated Movies
February 13, 2010If, like me, you’ve always wanted to dabble in movie-making but lack almost every single talent and resource needed to pursue this dream… sigh… these sites are definitely worth looking into.
Go!Animate
Some info from the site:
Go!Animate.com is a free online animation tool that enables everyone - no artistic ability required - to create their own animated stories and share them with the world.
Our advanced computer animation platform automates all the difficult parts of animation. Just select the characters you want to work with, and Go!Animate enables you to easily bring them to life. Then instantly share your animations via Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Digg and other social channels directly from Go!Animate’s site.
Of all the tools I tried, I ended up sticking with Go!Animate because it’s the most user-friendly, and I love the graphics (characters, backgrounds, props and so on) already available in the web studio. You can also create your own characters (first character is free, the rest you have to pay for), all of which have built in movements, actions and facial expressions.
The music and sound effects options are really limited, though, so you’ll have to go get clips elsewhere. Also if you want actual voices instead of speech and thought bubbles in your movie, you’ll have to record elsewhere, save as an mp3 and then upload to your Go!Animate account.
I’m still in the middle of about 4 different drafts (making animated movies takes longer than I thought — even when the heavy lifting is automated) but here’s a sample video created by someone else.

Today’s Time Waster: What Type Are You?
I took this test ten minutes ago, and I still can’t decide whether it’s cool or creepy — so I figured I’d throw it out there and let you guys decide for yourselves.
Answer 4 questions (asked by a rather disturbing headless psychiatrist who tries to make up for lack of facial expressions by making lots of hand and body movements) — and at the end he’ll tell you what “type” you are.
Incidentally by “type” he means “typeface” or font.
Like you really need to know.
Still, it beats doing actual work, so give it a try.

February 10, 2010Just discovered another great tool with infinite possibilities…
