10 Totally Brill Bags & Backpacks

October 23, 2009

My dad is really unimaginative when it comes to giving gifts. Every year, he asks me to covertly find out what my mom wants for her birthday — and in spite of my intel, STILL ends up buying her a bag! Geez Pop, why even ask???

Luckily, there are so many new and fabulous bags around that it’s actually possible my mom could remain content to receive bags for the rest of her life. Here are ten that really, really rock.

1. BagTV

Bagtv is a new (and totally brill!) concept — beautifully crafted ladies’ handbags in a range of cool colours, leathers, and fabrics, integrated with a high quality 7″ TV screen combining, DVD, and Mpeg player. Sweet!

2. Wooden iPod speaker bags

These co-Mobile Speakers designed by Japanese artist Yoshihiko Satoh aren’t just styled to look like bags, they actually are bags, sporting enough room for your iPod to serve tunes and a few snacks — but admittedly not much else.

3. The PeaceKeeper

Get a handle on your personal security with the PeaceKeeper™ handbag — a snazzy little number with detachable brass knuckles. Storage, style AND self-defense, all in one purty little purse. So cool.

4. Samsonite OBAG

The brainchild of designer Rooz Mousavi, the Samsonite OBAG is a roll-on bag that’s basically just a giant wheel. Because of its unique configuration, it requires less energy to maneuver, and it’s easier to drag up and down stairways. The two storage compartments are on the sides, and the handle collapses so you can slide the OBAG under your bed when not in use.

5. Voltaic Generator

The Voltaic Generator is the first solar bag powerful enough to charge a laptop. This solar laptop charger has high-efficiency cells and includes a battery pack custom designed to efficiently store and convert the electricity generated. It will also charge cell phones and most other hand held electronics.

6. Deluxe Portable Travel Bar

Everything you need for the ultimate party-on-the-go is contained within this premium leatherette cocktail case with deluxe velvet interior. The party pack cocktail case contains shakers, tongs, jiggers, strainers, two martini glasses and still plenty of space left for two bottles of your favorite liquor or whatever else you want to carry around.

7. Four-in-1 Gardening Backpack

Garden on the go! This compact gardener’s toolkit packs two shovels, 1 weird-looking hoe, and a broom, all neatly assembled in a nice-looking backpack.

8. Piratesi Guitar Backpack

This awesome guitar-shaped bag is made from premium vegetable-dyed calf leather and comes with an integrated mini speaker and outlet for you to hook up your favorite MP3 player. Other features include inner slit and zip pockets located alongside the shoulder strap for that sophisticated musician look.

9. Two-in-1 Stadium Seat & Cooler Backpack
Never worry again about being uncomfortable or unprepared at your next sporting event. The 2-in-1 Stadium Seat & Cooler Backpack converts easily from backpack to stadium seat, and has a fully insulated cooler section that holds up to 16 cans.

10. Rocket Pack Drink Dispensers

Seriously, how popular would you be if you carried this around at a party? Haha! Rocket Packs  are beverage-dispensing backpacks for both hot and cold drinks that can be custom-designed for companies and private individuals.
