October 30, 2009So it’s crunch time, and you still don’t have a costume. Never fear — the cop-out Queen is here. The solution? Masks, baby.
Here are some good ones that you can still have fun with way after Halloween is over.
Waldorf and Statler

Perfect for you and a pal… because you know you’ll probably spend most of the night heckling other people’s costumes anyway, right?
Beautiful Book: Notes Left Behind
October 29, 2009
OMG. This had me bawling at my desk today. Watch the video, and if doesn’t bring you to tears, then you must have a heart of stone (if you have a heart at all).

10 Creative & Creepy Halloween Cakes
With Halloween only two days away and my 7-day diet ending tomorrow, a gallery of creepy but yummy cakes seemed the only way to go for today’s blog post. Enjoy!
Va Va Vrooom: 10 Very Cool Vehicles (That Aren’t Cars)
October 28, 2009I mentioned before that I actually like a lot of websites for men, and they invariably have extensive features on hot cars, cool wheels, and sexy rides.
Well, I’ve always thought that a women’s edition of the sweet ride lineup would be interesting, since we do tend to look for other qualities in the vehicles we choose. (Is it cute? Check. Do I look cute in it? Check. SOLD!!!)
Cars already get a lot of attention, so here are ten very cool non-cars that I’m sure most women would love.
1. The Carbon Chassis Velocipede
The Carbon Chassis Velocipede is the first human powered vehicle (HPV) to have a carbon fiber monocoque chassis — the same material found in the fastest high-performance Formula 1 automobiles. Designed by world-renowned designer Michael Goretzky, this customized vehicle combines the low-impact exercise benefits of a recumbent bicycle with the stability of a three-wheeled cruiser and the aerodynamics of a concept automobile. Now that, my friends, is a sexy ride.
2. The Motorized Monocycle
Drawing upon a robust history of development that began with an original design conceived in Marseilles in 1869, this super-frakking-cool motorized monocycle can propel a single rider up to 25 MPH and run for up to two hours on less than a 1/2-gallon of gasoline. You steer it by leaning to one side or the other, and though it isn’t a street-legal vehicle, it runs safely on any dense surface such as pavement or grass.
10 Super Important Safety Tips for Women
October 27, 2009I’m a crime show and murder mystery aficionado, so I guess I tend to be more paranoid than most women. It never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in though, so when I got some useful safety tips in my email the other day, I thought they might be good to share.
Here are 10 safety and self-defense tips that could seriously save your life one day — so stop snickering, read and remember!
1. Don’t act or look like an easy target.
A self-defense instructor who interviewed a group of rapists in prison learned what most predators look for when scoping out a potential target:
- The #1 thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun, braid or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.
- They also look for women on their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered.
Naturally, if you’re dripping with bling or wearing next to nothing, that would make you a primo pick as well, so use a little common sense. Predators (actually most criminals) look for easy targets — so don’t be one.
10 Awesome Alternatives to the Ordinary Office Chair
October 26, 2009If you’re desk-bound for most of the day, the most important item in your office is the chair that’ll support your work-weary back and behind for 8 hours or more. Here are ten awesome options to replace the boring bit of furniture you’re probably sitting on right now.
1. Zero-Gravity Chair
I’m sorry, I’m drooling as I type this. I…want…this…chair!!!! Billed as the closest to zero-gravity you can get, the Stokke Gravity Chair can rest in a variety of positions depending on your mood or task — from upright as an office chair to rocked back for noon-time naps, gaming or video-viewing. Drooooool…
2. Surf Chair
The Surf Chair was designed by Kenneth Lylover for the ‘Internet Collection’ competition at the Scandinavian Furniture Fair, and to no one’s surprise, it snagged the title of “Best Product” at the event. Come on, just look at it — what other chair could possibly compare?
10 Killer Kitchen Items for the Not-So-Happy Homemaker
October 25, 2009I haven’t done a Christmas preparation post in a while, and we have 61 days left to the big day! Time to do some more shopping, people!
Managing a home might be easy for some women, but for others it can be a difficult and often thankless job — especially when juggled with another full-time job at the office. These ten silly (and rather psycho) kitchen items can go a long way toward injecting some much-needed humor into the life of the harassed homemaker.
1.Throwzini Knife Block
Inspired by the Wheel of Death and later circus acts, the Throwzini has 5 razor sharp knives set in a high quality hand crafted wooden block — that actually spins!
2. OUCH!™ Voodoo Doll Toothpick Holder*
Make your next party painfully amusing by inviting Ouch!, the voodoo-it-yourself toothpick holder. Perfect for finger food, emergency hexes, and jump-starting the good times.

October 24, 2009Sigh. I’m on a diet, and misery loves company. Need I say more?
10 Totally Brill Bags & Backpacks
October 23, 2009My dad is really unimaginative when it comes to giving gifts. Every year, he asks me to covertly find out what my mom wants for her birthday — and in spite of my intel, STILL ends up buying her a bag! Geez Pop, why even ask???
Luckily, there are so many new and fabulous bags around that it’s actually possible my mom could remain content to receive bags for the rest of her life. Here are ten that really, really rock.
1. BagTV
Bagtv is a new (and totally brill!) concept — beautifully crafted ladies’ handbags in a range of cool colours, leathers, and fabrics, integrated with a high quality 7″ TV screen combining, DVD, and Mpeg player. Sweet!
2. Wooden iPod speaker bags
These co-Mobile Speakers designed by Japanese artist Yoshihiko Satoh aren’t just styled to look like bags, they actually are bags, sporting enough room for your iPod to serve tunes and a few snacks — but admittedly not much else.
Future Films: 10 Movie Sequels We Hope We’ll Never Have to See
October 22, 2009I love all the creative Photoshop contests over at Worth1000.com, but I’m always extra happy when they mess up movie posters.
Here are my favorite entries from their “Future Films” contests, which poke fun at Hollywood’s apparent inability to quit while it’s ahead.

10 Ways to Simplify Your Life
October 21, 2009
Much as I try, I can never do just one thing at any given time. Though I’ve never actually won any awards for watching TV, writing, tweeting and giving advice to a lovelorn friend over the phone — all at the same time — I used to take great pride in my multi-tasking. It made me feel like some sort of new-generation Wonder Woman.
Unfortunately, I tend to let my “Wonder Chin Powers” get to my head – brazenly taking on more tasks… more projects… more activities…more responsibilities… than I can actually handle. And like most people who bite off more than they can chew, I often feel like I’m choking — and no longer able to taste (much less appreciate) the many subtle, pleasurable flavors of my life.
Forget Superfriend status. I just want to be a regular mortal again. But how?
10 Extremely Funny Engrish Signs
October 20, 2009I recently submitted a photo to Engrish.com — a hilarious website that compiles English mistakes (usually lost in translation from Japanese) that appear in signs, advertising and product design. Here are some really classic ones I found while browsing through their archives. Enjoy!
1. Yes! I Am!! (… a Liar…)
2. Excuse the Crappy Connoction
10 Gifts You Can Give Yourself That the Whole Gang Will Thank You For
October 19, 2009I love to shop, but when it comes to splurging on expensive things for myself, I always feel I need some form of justification. My “defense” is usually made of two main arguments — length of use and the number of people the item will benefit. Here are 10 fantastic things that would totally pass the test… if I could afford them.
1. The iRev
The coolest thing thing to hit the water this year, the iRev (Interactive Recreational Entertainment Vessel) seats up to 10 people and features a central low smoke charcoal grill, an outboard electric 2-5 hp motor with 8-10 hours of battery life, 4 storage bins, an integrated umbrella, and an optional audio package with marine approved hi-fidelity 500 watt speakers, amplifier, satellite radio and a MP3 connection.
2. The Man Wall
My husband almost cried when he saw this, he wants it so badly. The Man Wall features room for four TVs (only 3 are included though — one 52″ and two 26″ units). It also has a 1200-watt Panasonic home theater with integrated speakers and wireless surround units, two 25-cigar humidors with gauges, a 32-bottle wine rack, a microwave, a live 7-foot sports ticker at the top with built-in computer, a full-size kegerator with tap, an iPod docking station, DVD player, all managed by using a single remote control. Total man-gasm.
3 Creative Apps for Kids That You’ll Want to Keep for Yourself
October 18, 2009I think we’ve already established that I’m slightly retarded, so it should come as no surprise to anyone that some of my favorite apps are actually programs meant for kids. Here are three I’m particularly fond of:
1. Toonworks Deluxe
Toonworks Deluxe is a comprehensive multimedia drawing program that mixes learning with laughter. As your masterpieces develop, you’ll be delighted by the zany graphics and sound effects that follow you every step of the way.
Gross Anatomeal: 12 Delightfully Disturbing Dishes for Your Halloween Buffet
October 17, 2009Halloween’s coming closer, and since we’ve already tackled the matter of costumes, next on the list is food!

A Dozen Designer-Inspired Desserts for the Foodie/Fashionista
October 16, 2009
The fifteenth annual Salon du Chocolat opened in Paris on Tuesday night with a chocolate fashion show featuring dresses and outerwear created by the world’s top fashion designers and chocolatiers. Hmmm… Haute Chocolate Couture... very nice!
Food and fashion — that’s quite a killer combination. If you’re both a foodie and a fashionista, here are some sweet designer-inspired treats that’ll really make you drool.
7 Tips for Savvier Speechmaking
October 15, 2009I come from a long line of savvy (and rather rather shameless) speechmakers. As far as my mike-hogging uncles are concerned, any given occasion is special enough to warrant a barrage of special introductions, hearty congratulations and (often drunken) unsolicited advice. I was a teacher myself for 8 years, so I’m no stranger to public speaking either. I do realize, however, that my rambling relatives and I are the exception rather than the rule.
Speechmaking – or any form of public speaking – doesn’t come naturally to most people. But since speaking to groups of people is inevitable (particularly in business) it’s important to know how to do it right.
Any time you give a speech, you want your audience to listen attentively, understand what you’re saying, and remember any important points that you’re trying to convey. For this, you need much more than just good material.
5 Fantastic Moments of Glee
October 14, 2009I was talking to my friend Mia yesterday, and was completely dismayed to learn that she has never watched Glee.
Horrors! This situation must be rectified IMMEDIATELY.
If, like Mia, you’re one of those few lost souls who have not yet been enchanted by Fox’s new and very aptly named musical TV series, here are five fantastic clips (arranged according to air date) to show you what you’ve been missing.

20 Buzzworthy Business Card Designs
October 13, 2009I’m going off to another Email Marketing Conference in November, and I imagine I’ll be bringing back a whole new bunch of business cards — most of which I’ll probably put away and never look at again. Just being honest. Most business cards are so… blah.
A business card, if designed effectively, can be a powerful and memorable marketing tool that will continue to create buzz for your business long after you’ve handed it over. Given the limited space however, designing a buzzworthy business card can be a bit of a challenge. Here are 20 excellent examples to inspire you:
